Will the ban be lifted from Kangana? What the Center Thinks About Musk's Twitter Acquisition

 


Elon Musk completed the deal to acquire Twitter on Friday.  Musk also fired several top local tweeters, including Parag Agarwal.  Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar was asked to respond to this situation, he said, "Irrespective of who owns the platform, the rules and laws we set for social media will remain the same."  So, we would expect the company to comply with Indian laws and regulations.”

Meanwhile, when the government's opinion was asked about the Twitter ban on Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, the minister only said, "The new revised IT rules of the country will be published soon." Meanwhile, Kangana is happy that Elon Musk bought Twitter.  The Bollywood actor also requested to 'restore' his account.  Note that Kangana's Twitter account was banned last year for violating the rules.


  • What's next?

The Center ordered to 'block' several tweets related to farmer protests, Covid epidemic.  Twitter went to the Karnataka High Court against that order.  They claim that some of the instructions of the center are unreasonable.  The organization claims that such directives are against freedom of speech.  Twitter also sought judicial review of such orders.  But the only statement of the center is that Twitter must comply with the law.  Notably, the Center ordered Twitter to cancel 1,400 accounts and delete 175 posts between February 2021 and February 2022.  Of these, 39 accounts were challenged by Twitter.
