His tenure at the Indian Cricket Board has ended. Sourav Ganguly is now the former president of BCCI. It can be assumed that some of Maharaj's devotees are unhappy with this decision. That effect this time also in Tollywood. The work of the film 'Kolkata 96' is stopped.

  • What's the story?
No one has forgotten Sourav's hundred in his debut Test at Lord's in 1996, his act on the balcony of Lord's after winning the NatWest Trophy in 2002.  It was those moments that director Rahul Arunoday Banerjee dreamed of bringing to the silver screen.  The name of the film is 'Kolkata 96'.  Rana Sarkar was in charge of the production.

With Sourav's departure from BCCI, Rahul's film work stopped. The producer said, “The city of Kolkata was in frenzy for three days around Maharaj's century at Lord's.  Rahul wanted to frame that moment of madness.  Maharaj said that he would also give us some footage of that time to facilitate the film.  But now we have to do it ourselves.  Which is practically impossible.  If Sourav had it, we would have been able to get that footage.  So I told Rahul not to do this film.”
